In the Word…
...Every Day in 2012!
In just a few days we begin a brand new year. It is my prayer for every person in our Fairmount Congregation -- that you commit yourself to faithfully getting into God’s Word, the Bible, every day of 2012. People everywhere are seeking purpose and meaning to life. But much of our culture has undermined the very foundation for purposeful living by substituting humanistic ideas for God’s Eternal Truth. The result is always the same -- confusion, frustration, lack of peace, and even despair. How reassuring is the declaration of our Lord as found in His High Priestly Prayer in John 17:17. He declared to the Father, “Your Word is Truth!”
Yes, the Bible is true! It is absolutely trustworthy. Man’s theories undergo constant change, but the Bible never changes. It is the most up-to-date, relevant book in the world. Why? Because it is God’s eternal, inerrant, inspired Word. It is God’s Book. You can trust it without reservation.
The Psalmist testified repeatedly, and especially in the 119th division, of the utter importance of being in the Word. “Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee” (v. 11); “Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage” (v. 54); “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path” (v. 105); “The entrance of Thy Words gives light” (v. 130). Our Lord
Jesus tells us that we are made clean through the Word (John 15:3). 1 John 1:7 gives us the formula for God’s continual cleansing and for fellowship with him and with one another. It reads: “...if we walk in the light!” The Bible is God’s revealed Word to man. That is why it is so important to discover what it says and to obey it. Some Christians confine their Bible reading to certain favorite portions and only when they feel the need. But the Scriptures declare, “The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right. It is God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone (2 Timothy 3:16,17, Living Bible). The Apostle Paul gave us the secret for a dynamic, fruitful life: “This is the reason why we never collapse. The outward man does indeed suffer wear and tear but every day the inward man receives fresh strength” (2 Corinthians 4:16, Philips Translation).
To keep spiritually fit we need the whole Bible and we need to feed our souls on it DAILY! Develop the habit of regular, consistent, daily Bible reading and meditation and mark your growth in spiritual vitality, joy, stability, peace, and usefulness. If you do, I am confident you will be pleasantly and wonderfully surprised!
I will be providing a Bible Reading Guide as an insert in the bulletin on the first Sunday of each month. Look for it on Sunday, January 1. It is designed to walk you through key passages from Genesis to The Revelation. Each Saturday the passage will be from Proverbs, and each Sunday from the Book of Psalms. Please, PLEASE, allow me to exhort you with all my heart -- GET INTO THE WORD EVERY DAY IN 2012!
From the Pastor’s Heart,

Oh yes, and start bringing your Bible to church on Sundays. If I’m to teach, you need your textbook. Besides, it is always good to carry your weapon, “The Sword of the Spirit.”
We will also be offering a daily email/text reminder of the reading for the next day. If you would like to be added to this program send your email and/or cellular number and service provider (verizon, AT&T, etc) to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
